Construction

Let's first see what makes this treadmill so sturdy. The frame is made out of durable steel in the shape of tubes. Every inch of steel on this treadmill is covered with a layer of protective coating, that protects the machine from corrosion and damage. But not the whole NordicTrack 2450 is made out of steel, like the console, the side rails, and other small covers are made out of ABS plastic. Don't let that scare you though, because this type of plastic is very sturdy. The heavy-duty construction can support users weighing up to 300 pounds. The belt is a commercial grade, with two layers offering a running surface that is 60″L x 22″W. This size is enough to support users up to 6'5" tall. Taller people can use the treadmill, but they may not be able to use their full stride. The deck has precision-made, balanced rollers. The non-flex rollers have a 2.5-inch diameter, creating a grippy surface that is bound to last for many years to come. They have very hardy steel ball bearings that create a smooth, fluid ride. The machine has something known as the Reflex cushioning system. The track has cushioning elements on the side, which are conveniently concealed. The left side of the deck has a dial that allows you to adjust the cushioning. The dial can make the track cushioned and bouncy at the front that absorbs shock and saves your joints the stress, or you can opt for a firmer track reminiscent of roads.

Incline Mechanism

The incline and decline mechanisms are motorized. The incline can be adjusted from 0 to 15%, while the decline ranges from -3 to 0%, in three different positions. The incline/decline mechanism is automatic. It's powered by a motor and a metal lift, sitting at the front of the machine. If you decide to run at an incline, the motor will slowly lift the front of the machine, while the decline setting makes the machine rise in the back. The incline or decline angle can only be changed from the deck. Some programs available on the console will automatically change the angle. The console is equipped with two buttons that can fiddle with the incline and decline setting. Two buttons allow you to gradually change the angle, while two more quick access buttons allow you to simply put the track in one of the three determined positions. If, however, you select the decline, you won't be able to run full speed, as the machine does not allow the highest speed setting. The track sits at 11" from the ground, and the height will increase if you go for the incline. So, find a room that has a ceiling as high as your own height plus at least 20".

Motor

The NordicTrack 2450 is equipped with a mighty motor. The commercial-grade 4.0 HP motor is designed to offer maximum performance and support even for extra-long sessions, for users weighing up to 300 pounds. The motor has an internal cooling system with two fans. It even has a flywheel on the side that minimizes vibrations and creates a very smooth ride. The 4.0 HP motor allows the treadmill to go from 0.5 to 12 MPH. The console has a set of buttons that allow you to change the speed gradually and one more set that allows you to quickly cycle through different speed settings. The motor does not generate a lot of noise, but the faster you go the more noise you will create, as is the case with most treadmills. If you use the treadmill in an apartment setting, you will definitely alert the neighbors. The motor requires a lot of power, but the treadmill does not come with an adapter. It just has a simple cord that is connected at the front of the console, so make sure to place the treadmill near an outlet!

Console

The NordicTrack 2450 has a 14-inch HD display with touchscreen-enabled. The console has a USB port that allows you to connect your device or speakers to it, or you can connect a screen to view your progress on a larger monitor. The console will show you all the important data you may ever need - the time, distance crossed, your speed and the average speed, the pace, the number of calories burned, the incline and decline, and your heart rate. You can change the unit system from imperial to metric. You can activate a function that breaks the distance into 400-meter race tracks, and then you can see how much laps you've finished when you stop running. The console can be connected to a Bluetooth heart rate strap, but the treadmill does not come with one. The front bar of the treadmill has built-in heart rate sensors, so if you don't feel like wearing a heart-rate monitor, just grab hold of the bar.

The machine can also connect to Wi-Fi, and you can then upload the data onto the iFit app. The machine comes with a one-year subscription to this app. The iFit app has over 16000 workouts ready to be used, virtual trails that are based on actual locations, and live interactive training. You can even draw your own trail, setting the distance you want to cross and the number of calories you want to see gone. The console has 50 different programs that you can choose from. We doubt that you will experience every program before the iFit app subscription expires, so when it does, you can still find variety with the onboard programs. The console even has a set of speakers, and three trays for your devices and water, plus a tablet holder on top of the console.

Size & Weight

The NordicTrack 2450 is designed for commercial use, so it is a rather large machine. Once fully assembled, its footprint is 81.2″L x 39″W. Each side requires at least two feet of clearance, while the rear end requires three feet of space, so you will need to find a lot of room for it. But this treadmill does not have to remain this large for a long time. Equipped with EasyLift, you can simply fold up the machine and store it away. Once the track is folded up, the length of the machine is cut in half. The folding mechanism relies on a hydraulic cylinder that prevents the deck from unfolding and crashing down. This treadmill is also very heavy, weighing 320 pounds when everything is put into place. The front end has two transportation wheels to make things a bit easier on you if you decide that you want to move this treadmill.

Setup & Maintenance

This commercial treadmill comes almost fully assembled. The motor, cushioning system and folding mechanism are all in place when you take it out of the box. The console and the bars are the only two things that need to be attached. The setup shouldn't take more than an hour, plus the manual that comes with the treadmill is concise and easy to understand. You will need the help of one more person though because the unit is very heavy. The deck comes pre-lubricated, so you shouldn't have to do this for a long time. The track must be kept clean, free of any residue, dirt, or dust to keep the drive fully functional at all times.

Value

And now, arguably the most important piece of information about any piece of equipment - the price. You should know that this treadmill is a fairly expensive one, going for over two thousand dollars. That is a lot to pay upfront, but you must be aware that this is a commercial-grade machine. It's built to last for many years, plus the motor itself has a 10-year warranty! The machine really has a lot to offer, but the iFit subscription lasts only one year, and if you decide to keep using it, you will need to pay a monthly fee, raising the cost of the treadmill.

The Final Word

The NordicTrack 2450 is a very sturdy, commercial-grade treadmill. The durable steel frame is meant to last for years, even decades, and it has a powder coat that protects it from rust and damage. The machine is fairly large, but it has an EasyLift system that makes folding it in half simple and quick. The deck has a unique cushioning system, and the console is large and full HD. It will show you the basic data every treadmill should, plus an iFit app that has over 16000 different exercises and a virtual personal trainer. The motor is powerful and quiet, and the track runs smoothly. NordicTrack Commercial 2450 is rather expensive, but we believe that the machine is worth the price!
